Marienhøj moor and plantation
Marienhøj Hede is a scenic and protected heathland located near Hadsund, offering both rich nature and an intriguing history. On the heath, you can still see remnants from World War II in the form of well-preserved trenches. These trenches, situated on the elevated terrain near Terndrupvej, were constructed by the Germans during the occupation. They specifically chose this area because of the flight routes passing over the heath from the airbase in Aalborg.
In addition to its historical remnants, Marienhøj Hede features a rich and diverse flora, typical of Danish heath landscapes. The heath is characterized by a dry and sandy environment that provides ideal conditions for plants such as juniper bushes, common heather, crowberry, and bell heather. These plants create a beautiful, colorful carpet across the landscape.
The area is popular among locals and visitors alike, who wish to experience the unique Danish heathland and enjoy a peaceful walk through nature. There are well-maintained paths that lead through the open landscape and up to higher areas, where one can enjoy a beautiful view over the heath and the historical trenches.
The heath is surrounded by Marienhøj Plantation, which is also worth a visit.
